What are the qualifications necessary to work in Asbestos Abatement?

An Initial course training as a Worker or Supervisor is needed to begin the process and obtain an AHERA Certificate (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act).

Then, a test at the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment must be taken and passed with a 70% to receive a state license in abatement.

A Respirator Fit test and a Physical Health Examination must also be performed around this time to be approved to work.

How often are qualifications renewed?
Every certification needs to be renewed annually (AHERA Certificate, asbestos License, asbestos physical, and fit test) and kept current to able to work in asbestos abatement.

¿Cuando se renuevan las calificaciones?
Cada certificación debe renovarse anualmente (AHERA, licencia de asbesto, examen físico de asbesto, y prueba de su mascarilla) y mantenerse vigente para poder trabajar en el asbesto.
What are the differences between Worker and Supervisor courses?
¿Cuales son las diferencias entre los cursos de trabajador y supervisor?
The main difference is the supervisor course covers more laws and regulations one has to know as a supervisor. The supervisor course is only taught in English, while the worker course is taught in English and Spanish.
The supervisor test is 150 questions with the State compared to the 50 questions for worker.
La diferencia entre los dos cursos es que el curso de supervisor cubre mas leyes y reglas que uno debe de conocer como supervisor. El curso de supervisor solo se hace en ingles, mientras el de trabajador se hace en ingles y español.

La prueba de supervisor en el estado son 150 preguntas, comparado a las 50 de trabajador.
What happens if I fail the State Certification License Test?
¿Qué pasa sí fallo el examen del Estado para la Liscensia?
A recent update to the Code of CO Regulations, Reg. 8, Part B states:
If an applicant fails to achieve a passing score, on the 1st attempt, the applicant must take a refresher class before they retake the State Certification License exam.

If an applicant fails on the 2nd attempt, they must take an initial course again before retaking the State exam.
Últimamente, cambiaron el Código de Regulación de Colorado. Si falla el examen del Estado la primera vez, si requiere hace otro curso de 8 horas (el refresh) para poder volver a tomar el examen para la licencia de asbesto.

Si un solicitante falla el examen en el segundo intento, debe de tomar un curso inicial de 32 horas nuevamente antes de volver a tomar el examen estatal.
